Highways & Trails

One main line of work for the CHR will be the cultivation of heritage tourism of the grassroots variety, helping independent travelers connect with real things in the landscape of the northern plains. In line with that, the North Dakota Department of Transportation has made a grant of transportation enhancement funds for the CHR to update the "Highways and Trails" section of the WPA guide to North Dakota (1938) and to put it online. There will be a press release on that soon, and much discussion of the work here. At this point it is enough to express appreciation to the ND DoT for this support of the early work of the center and to note that documents pertaining to the project--a pilot project at this stage--are being posted to the right of the CHR home page.

Ladbury Lectures 2006

The CHR is supporting the Ladbury Lecture Series for 2006, which is operating with funding from the North Dakota Humanities Council. Details of the series are available by following the link at right of the center home page. Note that the third program in the series, on October 21, features Tom Isern and Jen Wilkie reporting on research about Growing Up on Bald Hill Creek--previously mentioned in this blog.
