Saturday was a good day in Langdon, with the Harvest & Heritage Fall Festival organized by the Chamber of Commerce, the
Northern Lights Arts Council, NDSU Extension Cavalier County, and the Friendship Star Quilters Guild. Go to Heritage Image at Webshots for
photos of the day's activities. The farmers' market did a brisk business, while in the Cavalier County Courthouse, Birgit Hans of the University of North Dakota (sponsored by the
North Dakota Humanities Council) gave a splendid lecture, "The Star Quilt on the Northern Plains: A Symbol of American Indian Heritage." Jessica Holkup, of the
Emily P. Reynolds Historic Costume Collection at NDSU, followed up with "Preserving Your Vintage Treasures," a presentation on textile conservation. The two presentations were enhanced by an exhibit of quilts assembled from the community by Macine Lukach of NDSU Extension Cavalier County. Personally, I spent a rather strenuous hour teaching country school recess games to a gang of Langdon kids.
